Key Facts

Leviticus was written by Moses, though much of it records God’s words to Moses and to Moses and Aaron.
Leviticus was most likely written in the 1400’s.
The events and teachings of Leviticus occur during a 1 month period after the tabernacle had been set up (Exodus 40) and before preparations to move out from Mount Sinai (Numbers 1).
The book of Leviticus is all about how the Israelites can maintain their covenant relationship and live in harmony with God who has come to live in the middle of their camp in a sacred tent called the tabernacle.
The main theme is: Now that God has graciously come to live in the middle of their camp, what do they need to do to remain pure and holy?
The instructions in Leviticus teach the Israelites how they can live as God’s kingdom of priests and a holy nation.
